Kia EV9 – Superior design and technology

Over the last few years, we have seen many automobile manufactures show their intentions in the race to dominate the fully electric driven cars of the future. It was only a matter of time before one such manufacturer sprinted ahead with a winner in this market.

Kia is definitely going for this trophy and has seriously put its cards on the table with the all new Kia EV9, a vehicle considered to have exceptional qualities in both design and technology.

A first in offering a three-row seat electric EUV, based on the game changing Electric Global Modular Platform, the Kia EV9 certainly makes a statement. With a range of over 541kms, an ultra-fast 800-volt charging capacity which enables the EV9 to replenish sufficient charge to power the vehicle for 239 km in approximately 15 minutes. The exterior projects a sense of serene contemporary befitting a sophisticated EV for the new age buyer. 3,100mm wheelbase supported by a choice of 21-inch, 20 -inch or 19 -inch wheels. Overall length of 5,010mm it stands at 1,980mm wide and 1,755mm tall. The front end shouts electric with its lack of conventional grille showing clear-cut lines and incorporating a Digital Pattern Lighting grille with vertical headlamps and the signature Digital Tiger Face futuristic look.

In addition to the standard model, Kia has unveiled the GT-Line design with styling features which distinguishes it from the standard model. The front and rear bumpers, wheels and roof rack have all undergone a transformation with the GT-Line distinctive black colour palette setting it apart from its counterpart.

The EV9 offers a range of different seating options that cater for diverse needs. Seven-seater and six-seater combinations and a variety of second-row seat options to suit different situations, such as moving, charging and resting. The swivel seat option allows the second-row seats to swivel 180 degrees to enable conversations with those seated in the third row.  

The new Kia EV9 is also pioneering the brands Sustainability Strategy with the intention to phase out the use of leather and include some must have sustainable items increasing the use of bio-based materials such as corn, sugar cane, and natural oils. The exterior colour palettes draws inspiration from nature’s elements namely light, earth and water and the interior offers Six different combinations from light modern grey to elegant natural tones and a more Sporty version for the GT-Line.

A 76.1kWh battery is used in the standard model which utilizes a 150kW/350 Nm electric motor accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. The other variants have a 99.8 kWh battery and single more powerful electric motor at 160 kW/350 Nm and acceleration of 8.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. 

Advanced Technology is provided in the likes of the Highway Driving Pilot system which through 15 sensors enables the vehicle to scan for and detect objects in a full 360-degree field of view enabling it to react to the road to prevent potential collisions. Remote Smart Parking, which allows the vehicle to park itself without the need for the drivers  intervention. Blind Spot Collision avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit assist, Smart Cruise Control are some other technical features offered.

Kia will begin offering pre-orders of the EV9 for the Korean market in the second quarter of 2023. Global markets can expect the EV9 from the second half of the year.
