Although only available in the top specification T8 model, the all new Mahindra TUV300 is now on offer in South Africa, retailing for a very competitive R254 999. Looking even more bolder than before, the most dramatic updates are visible from the front where a new-look grille is fitted, incorporating front headlamps, and a new lower front bumper.

The grille is the most aggressive interpretation of the Mahindra five-slot facia with wide chrome-lined slats topped with a chrome lining. The redesigned headlamps have a fresh carbon-black finish to merge with the black-and-chrome grille. The air intake has been widened on the lower bumper and two squared-off fog lamps have been added as standard equipment.

These new lamps along with the new front scuff plate are finished in a metallic grey. At the rear the Mahindra has a redesigned rear-mounted spare wheel cover featuring a stylish X-design with an added sporty rear spoiler as standard. The vehicle sides have a muscular black side cladding between the squared off wheel arches offering extra protection.

Other improved features such as the high mounted stop lamp, alloy wheels, electrically adjusted and colour coded rear-view mirrors and high ground clearance remain standard. Moving inside the TUV300 projects a rugged interior with new silver detailing around the vents and main controls. Mahindra’s own designers produced the interior for this update rather than consulting with a design house.

Power steering, infotainment system, Bluetooth phone connectivity and built in Voice Messaging system, electric windows, air conditioning, driver seat height adjustment, and parking assist are all standard features. Safety is also addressed providing dual front air bags, side impact bars and ABS brakes with Cornering control and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. Using the Mahindra Scorpio mechanical platform with its tough durable reputation the new TUV300 has translated this into seating for seven occupants, rear-wheel drive, and a tough ladder frame chassis.

Powered by Mahindras 1.5 mHawk  turbo-diesel engine with dual stage turbo charging and common rail direct injection, producing 73.54 kW of power at 3 750 rpm. A healthy 240 Nm of torque is also distributed between 1 600 rpm and 2 800 rpm which is delivered to the driven wheels via a manual five speed gearbox. With all the above features included as standard, the only choice left to buyers is the exterior colour. 4 colours are available at launch, Lava Red, Diamond White, De Sat Silver and Sunset Orange.

Sold with a five-year/90 000 km service plan and 3 year/100 000 km mechanical warranty and Roadside Assistance Service. After the initial 10 000 km lubrication service is done other services are at 20 000 km intervals.
