At the heart of each vehicle is the worlds most powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine manufactured for series production. Reaching a peak of 310kW and 500Nm in the AMG S models the newly developed 2.0- litre engine sprints from 0-100km/hr in just 3.9 seconds. (4.0 seconds for the CLA 45s). An eight-speed DCT standard transmission features the standard RACE-START function allowing maximum acceleration from stationary.
The A45s will reach a top speed of 270 km/hr. For extra driving thrill the driver can change gears for themselves by selecting the manual transmission mode. AMG TORQUE CONTROL in the rear axle differential distributes power between the front and rear wheels and between the left and right rear wheels. All wheel drive is standard on both models and is complemented with six AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes. Slippery, Comfort. Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race.
The highly efficient power pack is extremely sophisticated with intelligent design features. 2.1 bar twin-scroll turbo and exhaust manifold, two-stage piezo injectors, electronically controlled wastegate and multiple water pumps to cool the cylinder head and crankcase separately. The cylinder linings are coated in a patented Nanoslide mirror-like coating that comes directly from F1 engines. Visually the distinctive AMG style is apparent when viewing the new models.
Wider front wings with flared wheel arches, AMG specific radiator grill and front apron featuring “jet-wing” design. Wider lower side skirts and from the rear two pairs of round 90mm-diameter tailpipes dominate the look. Aluminium rims are fitted with 245/35R tyres with 19 inch 5 spoke wheels for the AMG A45s and 255/35 on the CLA. Wheel width of 8.5 inches on the AMG a5s and 9 inches on the CLA 45s.
Suspension and Braking are two important issues on any high-performance sports car. The new AMG suspension with new frequency-selected shock absorbers provides stability and highly dynamic cornering with low body roll. To ensure comfort is also an option the AMG RIDE-CONTROL system enables the driver to choose between three different suspension control modes from comfort to sporty. High performance braking system ensures deceleration and short braking distances are achieved. The basic models are fitted with 4-piston monobloc fixed front callipers on 350 x 34mm braking discs, and 1-piston floating callipers on 3330 x 2 mm rear brake discs. The optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package has an even larger braking system with 6-piston callipers and 360 x 36mm brake discs at the front.
Most customers when buying a car in this segment want to know the vehicle has that distinctive engine roar sound. The exhaust system has an exhaust flap which is automatically controlled depending on engine speed and load. Depending on the drive mode selected this modulates the sound from balanced and subdued to emotional and sporty. At a press of a button the sound can be adjusted between Balanced and Powerful. Moving inside the cabin, the A45s has a high-quality interior creating a close personal connection between man and machine. Along with the MBUX infotainment system, users can choose between three AMG display styles for the instrument cluster. Classic, Sport, and Supersport. Voice control activated with the words “Hey Mercedes” is also on board.
For those racetrack enthusiasts AMG TRACK PACE the virtual race engineer is standard equipment for the S models. When driving a race circuit, the system continuously monitors more than 80 vehicle specific data points including lap and
sector times. After some fast laps the driver can use the data to improve their driving skills.
