Following the success of the Suzuki Grand  Vitara, the company has now introduced a latest version which becomes the Flagship vehicle Suzuki sells in South Africa. Filled to the brim with the latest technology, luxury features and eye-catching design the all-new Suzuki Grand Vitara is now officially on sale in South Africa.

Available in a choice of two different drivetrain options, including the first ever mild hybrid petrol – electric powertrain with three gearbox options and a choice between two and four wheel drive. The new Grand Vitara is the latest partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, designed by Suzuki and built in the Toyota Kirloskar factory in India.

From the outside the Vitara is styled with a modern interpretation projecting a more sculptured bonnet, wide imposing wheel arches housing large alloy wheels, and iconic roof rails completing the innovative design. Many stand-out features include the multi-level grille incorporating the S-Badge, the metallic surrounds and inverted lower front section that links with the bottom strike plate.

Three point LED daytime running lights on each side positioned higher than the headlamps. At the rear, a thin and imposing LED light bar stretches the width of the car. Reverse and turn signal lights are fitted in a deep sculpted section at the very edge of the lower bumper.

All models feature 17-inch alloy wheels, the GL model have the alloys painted while the GLX version have machine-polished rims of the same size.

Inside the cabin occupants are greeted with plush seats especially designed for this model. Seats, suspension system and electric steering have all been created for the most comfortable ride on rough and uneven surfaces. The dash gives a sense of space with the centre console housing a large digital display. In the GL models the touch sensitive screen measures 7-inches and hosts a reverse camera. GLX models have a centre mounted high-resolution touch screen of 9 – inches. Panoramic video display from multiple cameras mounted in the side mirrors, luggage door and grille are shown on the screen.

All models have keyless access, keyless start/stop, electric windows, wireless connectivity, climate control, cruise control, leather steering wheel and a powerful audio system. The GLX further receives a panoramic sunroof, additional speakers, high-end tweeter, wireless charging tray, ambient lighting, and additional UBS-charging sockets for rear passengers.

To power the new Vitara two engines are on offer. The K15B, a naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 77 kW at 6 000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4 400 rpm. The second engine (k15C) uses much higher compression ratio than its sibling (12.0:1) and is always on mild hybrid system with a power output of 75.8 kW at 6 000 rpm and 136.8 Nm at 4 400 rpm. The hybrid system supports the petrol engine to deliver similar power to a normal naturally aspirated engine and dramatically lowers fuel consumption and emissions. The Hybrid lowers the fuel consumption from 6 litres/100 km to 5.6 litres / 100 km despite the additional 125 kg of the all-wheel drive system.

Three transmission options available, the two wheel drive models can be purchased with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. The hybrid has the six-speed with switchable all-wheel drive.

All models have six airbags including side curtain airbags. ABS, ESP, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) Hill Hold Assist (HHA) and rear parking sensors as standard.
