The month of January 2020 saw Suzuki gallop out of the blocks achieving a new all-time record selling more cars, commercial vehicles, and SUVs through its national dealerships and fleet customers that ever before.

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Naamsa) reported sales figures for Suzuki, selling 1,632 vehicles in January 2020. This is not only an enormous increase over January last year (+61.4%) it also beats its previous record set in October 2019. Although a skewed figure, as not all manufacturers reported their January sales figures, total industry sales of new vehicles declined by -8.1% over January 2019. This makes the Suzuki sales growth an even more impressive achievement.

Divisional manager for sales and marketing Suzuki South Africa Andre Venter says “That dealer sales have grown by 58.7% over the past year when compared to January 2019. Many dealers reporting healthy sales and forward bookings for February 2020. (From the 1632 vehicles sold in January 2020, 1,222 units were sold through dealers.) “The demand for models such as the Swift, Jimny, and Ertiga have never been stronger and we are working hard to get stock to our dealers on time” says Venter. Suzuki is confident sales will continue to grow going forward especially with new models on the horizon such as the affordable S-Presso.

The 824 Suzuki Swift sales took the lion’s share of units sold, followed by the sought after Jimny at 189 units. The Swift is now in position 6 of the 10 best-selling passenger vehicles in South Africa. Other models which achieved good sales were the Ertiga at 159 units, the Ignis at 116 units and Vitara 106 units.
