Mercedes Benz A-Class
Rumors have been circulating recently regarding Mercedes Benz possibly considering dropping the A-Class models and concentrating its line-up on the larger luxury vehicles.
Well, if that is true, it is not happening immediately as the new updated A-Class has just been introduced and is now available in South Africa.
Geared to consumers who need an every-day car but still want to drive a German marc, the A-Class in both Sedan and Hatchback fits this requirement. Projecting a sporty muscular design, the front view is dominated by the forward-sloping bonnet with two power bulges and steep “shark nose’, a redesigned radiator grille with star pattern and slim flat headlamps. The sporty style is continued with externally flush wheels in a choice of four additional rim designs in sizes up to 19 inches, including high-gloss black alloy wheels.
A new rear diffuser and standard LED rear lights along with an attractive array of exterior paintwork options in metallic or nonmetallic complete the look.
Inside, as standard, a freestanding dual-screen display with a 7-inch and larger 10,25-inch display. Revised steering wheel in nappa leather is also standard and matches the high-tech character of the centre console. Even the base model has high-quality comfort seats with 3D embossed ARTICO upholstery. The seats feature fabrics in the centre section that are made from 100% recycled material. The interior trim offers three different colours: black, a luxurious-looking beige and the new zeitgeisty sage grey. Dark carbon-fibre look trim further enhances the instrument panel and door trims.
The central display offers functions such as navigation, media, phone, etc. and can be operated directly from the touchscreen. Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are available along with USB-C port and USB charging unit. Voice assistant can both operate the functions or explain how the vehicle functions work. You can for example ask to make a call or ask where the first-aid kit is located.
Safety is catered for with Driver Assistance Package including Lane Keeping Control, Active Steering Control, Parking Package and 360-degree visualization for camera assisted parking using 3D images.
