In 1982 car manufacturer Mercedes Benz decided the time was right to expend the range of cars on offer to its customers by introducing the “Baby-Benz 190”. The strategy behind this move was to attract customers who loved the brand but could never afford to own a “Merc”.
Now known as the C-Class the “Baby-Benz” has sold over 10.5 million units across the globe in over 100 markets around the world since its launch.
The latest new C-Class to reach showrooms in December 2021 will be manufactured in Mercedes Benz plants in Bremen, Beijing and East London, South Africa. The local East London plant has been expanded by 100 000 sqm and features 500 high-tech robots reducing energy consumption by 25% per vehicle.
The new C-Class is bigger, better and sleeker featuring dynamic exterior design and interior style borrowed from the flagship S-Class. Launching with the C200 and C220d both will have four-cylinder engines producing 150 kW and 300 Nm in the C200 and 147 kW and 440 Nm in the C220d. Fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km and 4.6l/100km respectively.
A limited 400 units of the debut model know as the Edition 6 will be produced for the launch in two distinct colours Spectral Blue and Selenite Grey. Additional features include an AMG Line, AMG 19-inch wheels, Panoramic sliding roof and Agility Control. The C200 Launch Edition 6 will be available on Agility Finance from R9 999 per month subject to terms.
Considered larger than its predecessor the new C-Class is 4 751mm long and 1 820mm wide. The wheelbase has increased by 25mm to 2 865mm providing front and rear passengers with increased leg room.
Inside the cabin features high-resolution free-standing LCD screen that appears to float in front of the wing profile and the trim. Like the S-Class the new C-Class has digital and intelligent screens changing the look to Discreet, Sporty or Classic. Voice Assist “Hey Mercedes” is interactive and explains vehicle functions recognising the vehicle occupants by their voices.
9G-TRONIC transmission, new suspension, adjustable damping, and sport suspension are added along with Driving Assistance which will respond to impending collisions as the situation demands.
