One of South Africa’s most hotly contested vehicle categories is the compact segment offering so much choice from the manufacturers. As buyers have such a wide range of variants and features to choose from it has become very important that the manufacturers present their vehicle competitively priced but also competitive in features and latest tech.
Maybe that’s why the all-new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is launched into the market with a one-million kilometre warranty. With a choice of two petrol engines, three transmissions and three different spec levels the Tiggo is certain to be a winner.
To start with the Chery Tiggo is different in styling and stands out from the crowd boasting a confident Chery logo positioned on the large hexagonal grille with unique diamond pattern. Each individual diamond is fitted with chrome brightwork to give the Tiggo a distinct upmarket look and road presence. Flanking the grille are automatic headlamps and LED daytime running lights dubbed the Chery Crystal Diamond lens design. Electrically adjustable side mirrors and electrically folding mirrors for tight spaces on the Elite models.
From the rear LED lights and dual rear fog lamps and dual chromed exhaust outlets complete the look including a roof mounted antenna fin and spoiler. The side view projects moulded side skirts and 16-inch alloy wheels shod with 215/65 tyres. The Elite and Elite Special Edition has 17-inch alloys finished in dark chrome with 215/60 tyres. Ground clearance between 170mm and 180mm depending on choice of wheel and tyre.
Two engines are on offer with the Urban and Comfort variants fitted with the 1.5 litre 83kW at 6 150rmp and 138Nm of torque at 4 000rpm. Front wheel drive through a five speed manual transmission on the Urban and continuously variable transmission with paddle shifts on the Comfort model.
The Elite and Elite SE have a choice of manual or six speed CVT transmission 1.5 turbo-petrol engine delivering 108kW at 5 500rpm and maximum torque of 210Nm.
ABS, Electronic Brake Force, electronic parking brake, electronic stability program, Traction Control, Roll Stability Control, Hill descent Control and Hill Assist are all standard features across the range.
Inside the cabin provides you with a digital instrument cluster from a 3.5-inch wide screen with high definition colours. (The Turbo models have a 7” screen). The central infotainment system has a 10.25-inch touch-screen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports a DVD player and Bluetooth connectivity. Elite models have full leather upholstery and electronically adjustable driver’s seat.
The special Edition models have red detailing on the exterior design above the front and rear skid plates on the side skirts and brake callipers. Inside the red is repeated with contrasting stitching, door handles and multi-coloured LED lighting.
To complete the list of features the Tiggo has a Start/Stop button, lock, and unlock automatically when you approach or leave the car. Child lock, immobiliser, and alarm system and at least two air-bags.
