Mahindra SA was established in 1996, bringing both its global name and expertise to South Africa. At this time the local market was awash with Chinese and Indian bakkies with new brands being launched on a regular basis. Overtime though most of these brands have disappeared from the market with only a few proving to have the quality to endure. One of those has been Mahindra after 15 years this brand has become one of the country’s fastest growing passenger vehicle and bakkie manufacturers. In February 2020 the new upgraded Scorpio S11 SUV was launched into the local market. Featuring a more powerful engine and improved transmission the Scorpio produces 103 kW with 320 Nm torque along with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The S11 takes its lead from the S10 Pik-Up and will now be available with this double cab’s more powerful mHawk turbodiesel engine which boosts the power from 88kW to 103kW. The 2.2 litre mHawk engine is now fitted to the Scorpio and utilises direct injection and a turbocharger to deliver the 320Nm on torque between 1 500rmp and 2 800rpm.

The new model offers SUV enthusiasts a hard wearing ladder frame chassis, electronic shift-on-the-fly transition between 4×2 and 4×4 on the variants equipped with a four-wheel drive system. 17’ alloy wheels, distinctive bonnet scoop, clear reflector headlamps and LED rear lights emphasise its flagship status amongst Mahindra’s range of off-road models. Both the 4×2 and 4×4 models offer 195mm of suspension travel from its double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension. In addition 180mm of ground clearance is offered.
