No it’s not a new coffee arriving on the market, it’s the latest new SUV introduced by Suzuki Auto. Launching in March 2020 the new urban SUV S-Presso joins Suzuki’s range of models available to the South African consumer. With a choice of five model derivatives and two transmission options the new S-Presso is set to dominate the entry level SUV market. The S-Presso follows the success of the Jimny and Ignis, both models being created for the ultra-compact SUV market segment. The S-Presso being the third option offered to this buyer. The bold four-slot grill with large S emblem flanked by square halogen headlamps makes a distinct confident statement when viewed from the front. Below the grill the lower black bumper is swept up in a trapezoidal shape into the coloured main bumper to create a larger air intake and the visual impression of a high-riding SUV. The S-Presso has a very impressive ground clearance of 180mm on all models thanks in part to the 14’ steel wheels. The wheels have been placed at the outer corners of the S-Presso to ensure good road holding and to allow the engineers to fit a 2.38m wheelbase into this 3.56m long vehicle.

All models feature colour coded door handles and side mirrors with a choice of six exterior colours: Sizzle Orange, Pearl Starry Blue, Fire Red, Metallic Granite Grey, Metallic Silky Silver, and White. At the rear, a small integrated spoiler is added to the hatch door. A black rear bumper with the design similar to the front bumper features the number plate recess and integrated parking sensors which are standard across the range. If you want a bit more exclusiveness, Suzuki has designed a premium S-Edition model that highlights all of the S-Presso’s most prominent SUV features. This model features silver highlights in the four slot grill and rear skid plates and bold side cladding over the wheel arches and on the lower sections of the
doors. When selecting your S-Presso, personalisation is the order of the day. The buyer can customise exterior options such as colour coded front grill, rear spoiler and side cladding options. Interior colour coding options are also available along with colour options for the dashboard, air conditioning louvers and door panel accessories. HEARTECK is Suzuki’s latest generation platform that underpins models such as the Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and now the S-Presso. It utilises precision engineering and high and ultra-high tensile steel to create a platform that is not only light but very rigid. This translates to improved performance and handling, lower noise, vibration and harshness as well as class-leading passive safety.
Sitting atop the HEARTECK platform is Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) bodyshell, which uses all of the same materials and engineering principles to create an equally safe and rigid shell around the occupants. Both the HEARTECK and TECT technologies integrate seamlessly and offer crumple zones and channels for dispersing energy in side-front-or rear impacts to create a truly safe bodyshell. Two airbags, anti-lock braking, emergency braking, parking sensors, are also fitted to all models as standard safety features. The GL+ and S-Edition are fitted with a reverse camera.

A three-cylinder engine code-named K10B offers 50kW at 5 500 revs/min and 90Nm of torque at 3 500 revs/min thanks to its use of multi-point fuel injection and four valves per cylinder. Average fuel consumption of 4.9 litres per 100 km is easy on the budget and should allow a range of 550km on its 27L fuel tank. Front-wheel drive through a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission (ATM).
