The Ford Ranger Bakkie has proved it is a vehicle of choice it its segment consistently achieving number two every month in units sold in South Africa.
Starting with the entry level single cab base model at a retail price of R323 400 and ending with the double cab “Raptor” 4×4 HR at a retail price of R875 700, in total the Ranger has 33 variants to choose from. 10 of the models in the range are XL variants starting with the single cab with a retail price of R396 700 and ending with the double cab 6AT 4×4 HR at R522 300.

 

The XL is considered the value offering in the Ranger line-up and is now available with the Sports Pack including 17-inch alloy wheels, black gloss grille and tubular sports bar. Optional 8-inch touchscreen introduces Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the XL models. These options are available on all Ranger XL single cabs, supercabs, and double cabs. With the addition of the Sports Pack option Ford are giving the Ranger XL a more upmarket flair while enhancing its day-to-day practicality. Visually the XL Sport will be distinguished by an eye-catching gloss black grille an upgrade from the plain black used on standard models. The 16-inch silver alloy wheels have been upgraded to 17-inch Panther gloss black cast alloy rims with larger diameter 265/65 R17 tyres. To complete the Sports Pack the rear bumpers are black, and a tubular sports bar is added to the rear load compartment. If this is not enough for you the buyer can have a choice of further options, for example, the black fitted side steps that greatly improve access to the cabin.

The customer can stay with the entry-level SYNC1 entertainment system or as an option upgrade to the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. With smartphone compatibility using your respective mobile phone for navigation and other approved apps such as Waze. It also supports Bluetooth-connected devices, text-to-speech for messages and Wi-Fi hotspot compatibility. 2 USB slots provide additional multimedia connection options. In addition to the expanded options, the Ranger LX has an impressive list of features as standard.

The Ranger XL is powered by Ford’s proven economical 2.2-litre four-cylinder Duratorq TDCi engine producing 118kW of power and 385Nm of torque from 1 500 to 2 000 r/min. Both single cab and supercab models are available in two and four-wheel drive specifications matched to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission in the 4×2 derivative. The double cab can be specified in 4×2 or 4×4 versions with both available in manual and automatic.

The new XL Sports Pack adds R16 500 to the base price while the optional 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system adds a further R6 080. The dealer-fitted side steps are also available for R5 050. (All prices include VAT). Four-year/120 000 km comprehensive warranty and three-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty are standard as is the six-year/90 000 km service plan covering six-services.(15 000km intervals of annually whichever occurs first)
