As the price of fuel in South Africa climbs to just over R20 a litre, Land Rover launches its most powerful and potent Defender ever made. Boasting a 5.0 – litre supercharged engine with 386kW and 625Nm available in the 110 and 90 short-wheelbase designs.
Standard eight-speed automatic gearbox with permanent drive to all four wheels the hefty outputs enable the Defender 90 V8 to accelerate 0-100km/hr in just 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 240km/hr and the 110 reaching 100km/hr in just 5.4 seconds with the same maximum speed.
Larger diameter and solid anti-roll bars help reduce roll while cornering and a unique Electronic Active Rear Differential introduces a Yaw Controller that allows fine control of cornering attitude as the Defender reaches and exceeds the limit of grip.
To represent the pinnacle of the Defender, range the V8 Carpathian Edition is introduced. Finished in Carpathian Grey it’s set apart by a Narvik Black contrast roof, bonnet and for the first time on the new Defender, the tailgate. V8 Carpathian Edition badges, Satin Black towing eyes and distinctive Xenon Blue brake calipers complete the visual highlights. Inside the Defender V8 Carpathian Edition features the same upgrades as the V8 with seats finished in Miko Suede cloth and Robustec accents, an Alcantart-wrapped steering wheel and illuminated treadplates.
A new Extended Black pack is also available as an option with Gloss Black finish for the front and rear skid plates, grille bar, bonnet chequer finisher, badging, lower body cladding and wheel arches for a stealthy and purposeful appearance.
