Although the new generation Ford Ranger bakkie is selling in numbers and is loved by many Ford and bakkie drivers, it has still not outsold the Toyota Hilux which remains South Africa’s top selling bakkie every month. To ensure it remains in this dominant position Toyota has introduced a limited edition 2023 model, the new Hilux Raider X Limited Edition.
Based on the Raider 2.4 GD-6 4X4, two new variants will be available for a limited period, the 2.4 GD-6 Raider X 4X4 six-speed manual and the 2.4 GD-6 Raider X 4X4 six-speed auto. Both will be instantly recognizable thanks to the unique bespoke exterior package. Let us have a look at some of the highlights introduced to this limited addition Hilux.
Firstly, all-new 17-inch, bi-tone diamond-polished, chrome and black multi-spoke alloy wheels. Chunky matt black overfenders with distinctive red insert detailing. Chrome grille inset bar with Hilux badging, and Louvre matt black styling bar and integrated tonneau cover. A unique Raider X badge is also included for easy identification.
Glacier White, Attitude Black, Arizona Red, Graphite Grey, Chromium Silver, Sand Beige, Orange Metallic and Platinum White Pearl are all the available exterior colours to choose from. Add in a fully rubberised cargo bed and a spring-loaded Tailgate Assist function to make light work of opening or closing the tailgate.
Under the hood the proven trustworthy 2.4-litre diesel powerplant employing DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder architecture delivering 110kW and 400Nm of torque. Amazing fuel consumption is pegged at just 7,6 litres per 100km for the manual and 7,7 litres per 100km for the auto.
Inside standard features include cruise control, TFT multi-info display inset within the instrument cluster, large screen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth functionality. The steering wheel controls audio, telephone, info display and voice commands as well as a reverse camera. Do not forget the array of safety Aids including ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill assist Control, Trailer Sway Control, and a switchable four-wheel drive system that can be engaged while driving. Not finished yet, a suite of airbags comprising side curtains, driver and passenger knee airbags, Park Distance control with visual and audio warning assist when undertaking parking maneuvers.
