Not every new car buyer in South Africa wants to own a hatch-back or a SUV type vehicle, many still want to have a normal sedan car with four doors and a boot. This is where Volkswagen has identified a gap in the market and has taken its extremely popular and dominant Polo model and re-introduced the Sedan compact package.
Although considered a small family car the new Polo sedan boasts a massive boot space of 521 litres. The Polo Sedan was first introduced to the SA market in 2011 and has sold 44 267 units since that time. The new model measures 4 561mm in length, 1 752mm in width and 1,507mm in height and introduces some new external and internal features.
In the cabin premium touch surfaces with dual-tone upholstery combines comfort with sheer elegance. Keyless entry, ambient lighting, Climatronic air conditioning and multi-functional steering wheel. 7-inch touchscreen radio and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system equipped with wireless App-Connect and wireless mobile charging. Six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, multi-collision braking system, tyre pressure monitor, Park Distance Control and Hill Start Assist all included in the Life derivatives.
The new Sedan is available in three equipment lines, Polo Sedan, Polo Sedan life and Polo Sedan Life Tiptronic. Each derivative has certain features, and you cannot add any further options. If you want all the features available then buy the Polo Sedan Life which has every feature available including 16-inch Scimitar alloy wheels, folding exterior mirrors, leather steering wheel and gear lever, front fog lamps and a chrome package.
Choice of five exterior colours, solid paint Candy White and four metallics, Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, and rising Blue.
The engine is a four cylinder MPI petrol mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. Delivering 81kW of power and 152Nm of torque at 3 850 to 4 100 rpm. 11.2 seconds 0 – 100km/h with a top speed of 190 km/h and fuel consumption of 6.2 litres/100km. The Tiptronic takes 12.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h and has slightly less top speed at 187 km/h with fuel consumption at 6.5 litres/100km.
