The Toyota Hilux “Bakkie” is well loved by South African consumers and has enjoyed the number one best-selling title in its segment for many years. With the Ford Ranger hot on its heels consistently achieving position number two, it is always a good strategy to upgrade the Hilux line-up and offer more value to the potential buyer. To this end the model range and upgrade strategy has been revised in keeping with evolving market trends. The largest change is in the mid-range where the SRX is replaced by the “Raider”. In summary the SRX and the Raider have merged creating the opportunity for a single flagship grade above the Raider. Viewed from the outside the most visible change is the front-end styling introducing new slim-line headlamps flanking an all-new grille and bumper design. This updates the look to a more modern yet unmistakable tough aggressive appearance. Raider models.

The popular Raider models will have a broad chrome border and horizontally separated 3D grille elements, new boomerang-shaped fog lamps and an
integrated bumper guard. The 2.4 GD-6 models get four bulb Halogen headlamps while the 2.8 GD-6 Raider now boasts a Bi-LED headlamps and LED turn signals. Inside a new instrument cluster design welcomes the driver and features metallic inserts and metallic bezel. The 8-inch infotainment system incorporates a floating screen design while retaining rotary adjustment knobs for ease of use. 17-inch alloy wheels in dark grey metallic finish with 265-65-R17 tyres. Raider models also maintain their generous spec level and in the case of the 2.4 GD-6 variants (Former SRX) now boast side and curtain airbags, LED fog-lamps, Park Distance Control, and Bi-LED main beam headlamps. Legend models. The Legend name is now applied to signify a new flagship grade to introduce a Hilux like never before. The Trapezoidal grille on this model is outlined in black and integrates with the front bumper, bonnet protector and skidplate. The bold Toyota insigma along with dark-plated headlamp inserts and centred chrome inlay projects imposing front end styling.

An option on the Legend is the “RS” accessory package (RS refers to Roller Shutter). This includes motorised roller shutter, graphic-coloured sportsbar, rubberised bedliner, assisted tailgate, dust-defence kit, and central locking function. Inside the Legend has unique accent treatment to the instrument cluster, interior trim panels, switchgear and gear lever. Cool blue illumination compliments the perforated leather upholstery and black roof lining. The Raider comes with a choice of two engines, the 2.4 GD-6 and the 2.8 GD-6. The Legend also has a choice of two engines, the 2.8 and 4.0 V6. Delivering 150 kW and 500Nm (auto) the 2.8 achieves improved fuel efficiency by adopting a larger turbocharger and a new common rail injection system.
