The order books will officially open on Tuesday 26th July 2022 for the new all-electric Volvo XC40 P6 Recharge available online through the My Volvo website from a starting price of R1 075 000. A limited number of units have been made available to South Africa arriving later this year with customers already on the list to be given priority.
When compared to other manufacturers of all-electric vehicles the XC40 P6 price is entry level, although other electric options on the market are still cheaper, for example the all-electric Mini. The Volvo when fully charged will have a range of 423 km from its low mounted, high-voltage 69 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Fitted with a powerful 11 kW onboard charger as standard, this model also benefits from extremely competitive charging capabilities.
The sealed maintenance-free electric motor is mounted on the front axle and drives the front wheels producing 170 kW and 330 Nm which facilitates a sprint time of 0-100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds. The only two options for customers are the panoramic sunroof and heated seats/steering wheel as everything else is a standard feature, wireless smartphone charging, parking sensors and front and rear cameras to mention a few.
19-inch wheels can be upgraded to 20-inch and the touchscreen infotainment system is complete with built in Google apps and services.
Available in exterior paint colour choices of Fjord Blue, Bright Dusk and Silver Dawn, the car is delivered with a five-year maintenance plan, three year warranty, three years of comprehensive insurance, use of a petrol car for two weeks per year for three years and a public charge cable and a wallbox home charger included in the price.
The introduction of the XC40 P6 is another step in Volvos ambition to transform to a fully electric car company by 2030.
